Planted with onions or beetroot, it grows very well and helps their growth too. A surprisingly good companion for cucumbers, since they draw nutrients from a different layer of the soil.
It does not like strawberries, tomatoes or pole beans, but it helps plants of the mustard family. It is rather demanding — it needs regular watering and good drainage, and, like most brassicas, plenty of compost.
Like most brassicas, it is suitable for early production as well as for the autumn garden.
