This is a translation of a Bulgarian-language post. It conveys the content faithfully but is not the author's original English writing.

Onion, leek and herbs such as rosemary, wormwood and sage repel the carrot fly, whose larva often attacks the shoots of young plants. Salsify — sometimes called goat's beard — helps to repel the carrot moth. Use a mixed planting.

Carrots do well with tomatoes, as well as with leaf lettuce, onion, wild garlic, leek, radishes, rosemary and sage — but they have a strong intolerance to dill! Carrots improve the growth of peas.

For carrots with a sweet taste, your soil needs enough lime, humus and potassium. Too much nitrogen will cause poor flavour, as will a long spell of very hot weather.

Apples and carrots should be stored separately, to keep the carrots from turning bitter.
