Translation
This is a translation of a Bulgarian-language post. It conveys the content faithfully but is not the author's original English writing.
This piquant spice/herb is a relative of dill and caraway.
It is used to flavour liquorice, sweets, alcohol and so on. As a tea it helps treat sore throat, acts as an expectorant, restores appetite, and stimulates milk production in nursing mothers.
It is also a well-known aphrodisiac, and anise oil is used in pharmaceuticals and… in making absinthe!
Anise is antiseptic, and it is used to make an ointment against lice and against the itch of insect bites.
It is a good host for predatory wasps that feed on aphids. Sown near broccoli, it helps mask its scent so that its enemies cannot find it.
When sown with coriander, its seeds germinate better, it grows vigorously and forms better heads; and next to basil it boosts the production of essential oil.
It is not good to grow it near carrots or the herb rue!
