One of the main pests of cauliflower — the small white cabbage butterfly (Pieris rapae) — can be repelled if celery or stalk celery grows nearby. Under no circumstances should you position cauliflower plantings near strawberries or tomatoes.
An interesting fact is that an extract from cauliflower seeds deactivates the bacterium responsible for black-rot disease.
With well-hardened seedlings, cauliflower can also be grown as a spring crop, but, as with most of the brassica family, the warming of the nights halts their growth, which is why here it is grown mainly for the autumn garden.
The old varieties ripen for harvest in 80-95 days.
